Dr. hab. Joanna Różycka-Tran, Professor at the University of Gdańsk (UG) and UG Representative for ASEAN Partnerships is a social and cross-cultural psychologist affiliated with the Institute of Psychology at the University of Gdańsk. She previously served as Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences, and as Chair of the Section of Cross-Cultural Psychology within the Polish Association of Social Psychology. She was also the leader of the project “Applied Social Psychology in the Cross-Cultural Context: Synergies between UG and Vietnam” (ASPIC) in the Strategic Partnerships Programme (2024–2026) of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) with Vietnam, based on 17-year-long initiative of scientific collaboration and academic exchange with Vietnamese universities (USSH VNU and VASS). She has conducted long-term research on social beliefs and behaviors across cultures, studying over 20,000 participants from more than 60 countries worldwide. The results of these studies have been presented in numerous scientific and popular-scientific publications, co-authored with more than 200 collaborators from around the world.
Her scholarly work includes nearly 70 scientific articles and three monographs, she delivered over 50 papers at domestic and international conferences. She was a three-time scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Science and Education, was awarded a bronze medal of the President of the Republic of Poland and nominated for an individual scientific award of the Rector of the University of Gdańsk. In 2026 she has been nominated for the Minister’s Award for significant achievements in research, teaching, implementation, and organizational activity. She managed five cross-cultural scientific grants, carried out many months of study visits in Vietnam and the United States.
She regularly reviews in foreign journals, is a member of the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology IACCP, works with numerous academic centers and publishes articles with scientists from all over the world. She also popularizes knowledge by writing articles in the popular-science press and during media presentations.
Despite her many academic responsibilities, she combines her scientific career with a passion for travel. She has undertaken numerous expeditions in the Himalayas, climbing mountain and volcanic peaks and reaching hidden, remote Buddhist monasteries. Exploring the diverse worldviews, behavioral patterns, and value systems of different communities became not only her passion but also her profession.
